Formby Books:- Blog Date: 'The Beginning'

Hello Blogworld,

I have long thought about this, and now have finally started it.

I run an Independent Book Shop in the heart of a lovely village called Formby in Merseyside/Lancashire depending on your views.
We can be found in many ways...

I was manager of Pritchards, Formby for 24 years and sadly due to running costs and lack of high street trade due to half the block being empty and mainly the newsagents going belly up..we closed in Sept 2011.

I was asked to open a bookshop/department in
Derbyshires 22-24 Chapel Lane, Formby L37 4DUThe oldest established store in the village just celebrating 125 years and still run by the 4th generation of the same family.
We have Thornton's, Flowers, Stationery, A Huge choice of Greetings Cards, Jewelry and Gifts and now of course a 'Proper' Independent Bookshop with National Book Tokens, great choice, knowledgeable staff and author events galore..

I will blog from the opening next time.
If this even gets seen then we will use it to express views and reviews and tell you all about our events.

We have just started a new diary of events in conjunction with Formby Pool called
'A Dip into Culture'We had a 'Titanic Night' with Prof Ken Pye.
And this coming Thursday 14th June we have a
'Night Of Poetry'Doors open from 7pm and the Cafe will be open. Tickets are only £6 and you can pay on the door.

We have three poets performing and then there is an 'Open Mic' session.
Phil Todd the 'Inspirational Poet' from Old Roan will give an audio visual presentation to make us relax and meditate on our thoughts. Then Joan Sartain will make us have a giggle, her 'Aunt Mabel' series are hilarious, a rival for Rosen, McGough et all, she is over 80 but still going strong. Then a new voice in Liverpool wordsmithing Ian Bradley Marshall will give us his profound and moving Prose and Poetry from Meanderings his odyssey of discovery and passion for life and politics et all.

Please spread the word about this blog and let's see if we can get seen and folks then can come to Formby and meet us in person!
