It was a very sad time, when after 24 years of managing one of the finest Independent Book Shops in the North of England, it just went pop!!
Things had just escalated beyond human ability to control and even with minor super powers of creativity and numerous author visits, Pritchards, Formby was no more....
There had been various voices mumbling…."do something”, “open your own book shop" but it seemed virtually impossible with no financial backing.
I later found that once things actually got started everything fell into place.
We had a very hasty shop fit c/o Alan and his team, who worked nonstop to enable us to open the day after Pritchards’ closed... We had very little stock and what felt like no customers!
However, things soon changed and as word spread we had a superb 'Proper Opening' on Saturday 10th September 2011.
John Boyne made a special trip over from Dublin to officially open the shop.
He gave a superb talk/reading at Quo Vadis and all of a sudden it felt like we were a real new book shop!
